Engine, Motor, And Bearing Failure Analysis

When you need a trusted 3rd party for failure analysis, G2MT Labs is the place to choose. We work hard to provide clear, thorough, and unbiased analyses that helps prevent repeated failures.

Failures of engines, motors, and bearings can occur for a variety of reasons, often including more than one contributing factor. G2MT Labs will dig deep to determine the real cause of failure, provide you the evidence that supports that cause, and offer solutions to help prevent future failures. Our failure analysis experts have performed investigations on engines and motors of every size.

Engine Failure Analysis Case Study

The crankshaft shown below was submitted after failure in a power generation application. The appearance and location of beach marks leading the crack initiation site were used to determine the root cause of failure and recommend appropriate practices to prevent future failures.

Bearing Failure Analysis Case Study

The image below is from a motor that failed. The bearings started to corrode to the point that they were inhibiting motion rather than enabling the motor. Metallurgical analysis indicate the bearings were operating well above the specified temperature, which was later attributed to design flaws in the motor system. We worked with the customer to find and rectify these problems, and the replacement motors are still operating.

In addition to failure analysis, we also provide corrosion tests for engines (such as ASTM D1384 and D2570), metallurgical consulting, and metals characterization.
